Nay Benben's Life Story

Created by Benben's Family 11 years ago
Vicenta was born in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro. Born to Francisca Laurel and Toribio Mogol; the youngest of 8 siblings. *Childhood* She spent her childhood days in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, and then later grew up as a beautiful young lady who was friendly and very religious. In college at Centro Escolar University she took a degree in BS Pharmacy. She had a lot of friends which time and time again she would bring some to her native town Gloria. A simple request to kill a cow or goat as a treat to her guests would be honored by her parents. Among Francisca and Toribio's children, she was the only one who finished a degree and became a professional. She was industrious and smart. This made her almost the child favorite of her parents. *Lovelife* Things took a sweet turn in her life when one rainy day, she fell from a man hole and a man pulled her out; the man which later on would be the father of her 7 children, Mr. Napoleon Taduran. Napoleon was a student council President during that time. He was tall and handsome but Vicenta wasn't attracted yet to Napoleon. One day, out of the pressure of their common friend, Vicenta went to see Napoleon speak in public as the President of the student council. There she fell in love, and thru her words, she said that, "Napoleon is a very good public speaker". And shortly after they became sweethearts. Napoleon would often take her to Ma Mon Luk or to Max's Restaurant in Roces Avenue branch for their dates. After Vicenta graduated, the two didn't think twice about marrying. Vicenta took Napoleon back to Mindoro and with the blessing of the parents, they married in her hometown. This love story is well known even to her grand children as she would tell this repeatedly with a glow in her eyes at the age of 70s or 80s. She was a loving partner. *Married Life* After marrying and passing the board exam, Napoleon and Vicenta decided to live in Bicol (Buhi, Camarines Sur), where Napoleon's heritage is. She didn't have a hard time adjusting to this new environment as she was able to easily befriend her husband's friends and was able to talk the native dialect fluently right away. Going to Bicol, Vicenta was already pregnant for their eldest, Jeanne. Shortly after that came Joyce, then four handsome boys with most of them becoming basketball super stars in town, then the bubbly Joanne. Living in Bicol, Vicenta was known for her salesmanship. She started a pharmacy in 1950s. She would also do buy and sell of RTW, garments and textile; she would buy them in Divisoria and sell them back in Bicol. She was also a well known science teacher in town, which a profession she loved for 30 years. She was known to teach without the need of a book because she had mastered her lesson by the letter. She's a very good teacher. Vicenta was known to have a caring heart. She usually sent her house helpers to school. Even relatives would seek her help and she would certainly do. She also had her favorite past times, mahjong and jueteng. Napoleon wasn't really supportive on these past times but like a child, when there's a chance, she would slip her way to the 'mahjungan'. Once Napoleon is aware, he doesn't think twice, he knows where to find Vicenta. And on top of all of this, Vicenta was known to live a religious life. She would often go to the first mass at 5 in the morning. She was doing this almost every single day of every year. All these colorful traits and character of Vicenta, couple that with a famous family name in town from her husband, made her a well known figure in the town of Buhi. A good wife, mother, teacher, pharmacist, retailer and a religious person and a wife to Napoleon Taduran were all encapsulated in a well known nickname 'Tsa Benben' or 'Nay Benben'. She is not a native of Buhi but this nickname is a proof that she is well loved by the Buhinons. *As a Grandmother* Later in life, she would close her pharmacy, retire in teaching but continue her buy and sell of RTW, garments and textile. In 1980, her first grandchild was born. After that 14 more came. She would go back and forth to the US since her eldest was now a citizen having two of her many grandchildren. Vicenta and Napoleon would continue to support their childrens' family and would take full care and responsibility of their grandchildren if necessary. To all of her grandchildren, she was known to be a hip grandmother; besides being loving, caring and very religious, she was known to be fashionable and has an interest with footwears. No one beats her in her collection of shoes. *Old Age* She lived a healthy old age life. At her 80s, she would still occasionally buy at the wet market and cook food for everyone. She could still buy things from Divisoria and sell them in Bicol. She's still energetic, sharp and interested with every new stories anyone could share. Everyone was taken by surprise by what happened. But we still celebrate the good things and good times with her. Because all these good about her outweights whatever is the opposite in her life. We miss and love Nay Benben so much.
